Vintage Car Club Visiting Callaway May 3
The small village of Callaway has become quite the destination spot this summer, as two tours will make their way to the community. While the local Chamber of Commerce is busy preparing to host the Bicycle Ride Across Nebraska (BRAN) in June, and the Tour De Nebraska in July, Chamber President Ken Pitkin said the village was contacted last week about hosting another group.
On Tuesday, May 3 the Vintage Motor Car Club of America will make a stop in Callaway. The cars are scheduled to arrive at about 10 a.m. that morning and plan to stay until about 2 p.m. The public is invited to come downtown, see the cars, and meet the drivers.
“We are the destination,” said Pitkin. “And they plan to go through the museum while they are here. The public is invited to have lunch with the drivers between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Community Center. They love to visit and meet people so everyone is invited to come down and mix and mingle.”
The Vintage Motor Car Club of America was established in 1938. On the touring events, original preserved or restored cars 25 years or older are generally welcome - though some of the events are restricted to specific car types or eras. The tour that is bringing the club to Callaway is the 40th Chrome Glidden Tour which runs from May 1-6. The cars will begin in Grand Island that morning, and head back to Grand Island following their visit to Callaway.
With all that the Chamber members already have on their plate, taking on one more project seemed a bit daunting. However, the Callaway High School FCCLA had five girls qualify for Nationals in San Diego, California, so that group is taking care of the food for the event as a fundraiser for that trip.
We will have more on the FCCLA trip and the qualifiers in next week's issue of the Courier.
