Spring Brings Lots of Activities to Callaway

Anyone who thinks Callaway is just a sleepy rural community with nothing going on…doesn’t know Callaway. The past week has brought with it several events and activities in the community, and what’s most exciting is, it has also brought a large number of visitors to town.

On Tuesday, May 3, approximately 90 classic car owners traveled from Grand Island to Callaway to experience this community and the rich history and beauty it has to offer. Members of Vintage Motor Car Club of America visited Callaway’s museums and parks, and enjoyed a luncheon at the Community Center with local residents.

People from Callaway and the surrounding area had an opportunity to check out the beautiful vintage classics and meet the car owners, often sharing memories of owning similar cars. The lunch was served by members of the Callaway High School FCCLA chapter as a fundraiser for the trip to Nationals this summer.

On Wednesday, April 27, the school and community came together in a show of appreciation for our local fire department. The “Walk-A-Thon” took place from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Wednesday - 17 hours, signifying the 17 hours local firefighters spent battling the March 24 fires. The event helped raise funds for the Callaway fire department.

Then on Saturday, April 30, the 21st annual Walk For Life took place at Morgan Park. The event raises funds for the Women’s Resource Center in North Platte, a 501(c)3 pregnancy resource center providing free limited medical, educational, and support services to young women facing unplanned pregnancies.

Upcoming events include welcoming the BRAN riders to town on Tuesday, June 7, and city wide garage sales on June 11.
