Beginning this month, each CHS senior is doing a career presentation, in which they share their future plans and life goals - a requirement for the Senior College Prep class. The seniors then give the presentation to the entire student body.

Jasmyn Ledet may still be in her final semester of high school, but she has already begun steps down the path toward her future. Next fall, Ledet plans to attend Mid-Plains Community College in North Platte - which will be a seamless transition for her as she is already taking classes through the college.

“There won’t be a big hassle of transferring credits, and it is cheaper than a lot of other schools,” said Ledet as she explained why she chose MPCC. “It also offers the program that I want, and it is close enough that I can easily come home for holidays and breaks.”

Ledet describes her family as four parents (two step-parents), a brother, and a cat named Lexi. The family has done some traveling, and she has lived in three different states; Nebraska, Texas and Georgia.

She is planning to pursue a practical nursing diploma at MPCC, which she anticipates will take about a year and a half. At this point she is unsure about what activities she might participate in on campus, or if she will be working while in school.

“I will have to see how many scholarships I receive,” she said with a smile.

She credits Callaway Public Schools with giving her the tools she needed in order to make an informed decision about her future. “Without the MPCC representative coming to the school to talk to those of us who were interested in the medical field, I would have never decided to take the CNA class,” Ledet explained. “And I am able to job shadow at the clinic during sixth period. I follow a registered nurse, and this helps me see what I would be doing throughout the day.”

Ledet said once she completed her college education she plans to bring her skill back to this area. “I plan to live in Oconto and work here in Callaway, either in the clinic or hospital.”

Even though she is already familiar with the MPCC system, Ledet shared that she is a little nervous about being out on her own in a completely different environment. “But I am excited to further my education in a field that will help people,” she added.

When asked what advice she would offer underclassmen, Ledet responded, “Get out of your comfort zone. It can feel suffocating after a while when you’re in a little box. Experience new things and explore who you are! Oh, and don’t procrastinate.”
