Legion Auxiliary Discusses Upcoming Events
The Callaway American Legion Auxiliary’s monthly meeting started at 6:30 p.m. at the Callaway Legion Hall on June 9, 2025. Vice President Cora Belew called the meeting to order. Our Chaplin was not present, so MaryAnn started the meeting with a prayer. We then followed our Vice President in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, singing the Star-Spangled Banner and saying the Auxiliary Preamble.
The secretary then read the minutes of our last meeting. MaryAnn then followed with the financial report.
We have our bills paid and we made $153 from our juniors selling the poppies around town on May 16. While the five juniors were selling poppies, there were four ladies fluffing wreaths for the Memorial Day services.
We did have a small discussion about the Auxiliary’s main purpose. We survive as an organization to help our Veterans and to help the Legion.
We have been asked to help with the 4th of July Celebration at the softball park. MaryAnn made the motion to help again this year with giving out water and popcorn. Jo seconded this motion, and it was unanimously approved.
We plan to participate in the Pioneer Picnic Parade. We will use Jo’s pickup and use our vinyl banner and the metal signs to decorate the pickup.
MaryAnn went to Girls State on Wednesday June 4. She took snacks to the 9th floor for the evening snack. She and another woman took three pages to that floor so that the girls could study, vote and discuss these pages. Cora gave a report on how the library story hour on Wednesday for the month of May went. Cora read these books to the toddlers and young kids: 4th of July, The Constitution for Babies, and The Statute of Liberty. Cora showed us some of the projects that the kids worked on and it sure seemed to go over very well. Jo made a motion that we donate two of these books to the library. MaryAnn seconded this motion, and it received unanimous vote of approval.
If you are making pies for the Pioneer Picnic Legion Supper on Saturday June 28, after baking please put them back in the original box for easier handling and have them to the Community Center by 4 p.m. so the ladies can cut them.
The meeting ended with MaryAnn reading a prayer and Cora concluding the meeting.
Sincerely, Eileen Wilson, Secretary
