Father/Son Show Off New Digs in Callaway
John and Nick Reynolds greeted Callaway community members on Thursday, Oct. 13, during an open house for their recently completed new funeral home.
“We were in our other location here for years and years. It was two-story and hard to get in and out of, and basically I wanted a one-story building that was easy for people to access,” explained John when asked why the new building in Callaway. “We had been talking about it for a long time.”
Lloyd and Dorothy Timm started Timm Funeral Home in 1949 and operated it until the death of Lloyd Timm in 1965. Dorothy sold the funeral home to Marlin Reynolds on Sept. 28, 1965.
Marlin was already operating Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington that he had purchased in 1962. Rod and Bev (Frerichs) Reynolds moved into the Timm-Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in 1970. Dorothy would continue to work for the Reynolds family until she retired. Later Rod would move back to Lexington and worked out of the Lexington office until he left the funeral business.
On July 2, 1995, John and Tami Reynolds purchased the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington, The Overton Funeral Home and Timm-Reynolds-Love in Callaway. In 2003, Nick Reynolds entered the funeral profession and returned to his home town from Denver. He has operated the Callaway location since that time.
“It’s good to be back in the family business. It’s been wonderful working with my parents. My mother retired about five years ago, and John will probably retire within about another year or so,” said Nick. “So we have some new help and things are going well.”
Through the years the Callaway location has been blessed with Callaway residents that have helped the Reynolds’; Jerry Meyer for many years, Dixie G’Schwind, Randy Meyer, Shari Sheppard and Kenny Pitkin.
“This Celebration tonight is not about us, it’s about all
cont. PAGE 7 - Digs of you!,” said John as he formally greeted the guests during the open house. “For supporting us, for helping us, and for always being our friends!”
