From The Capitol: From Pasture to Policy
As we approach the Fourth of July, it’s worth pausing to reflect on what truly sets America apart. At its core, our country was founded on the principle of limited government, structured to protect individual liberty, not to manage every detail of daily life. This foundational framework has allowed Americans to build, grow, and create without interference, fostering a spirit of innovation and self-reliance. One of the most defining examples of this is our strong protection of property rights, not just in land or physical goods, but in the broader sense of owning the fruit of your labor. When you work for something, pay for it, and earn it, you have a fundamental right to keep and control it, free from arbitrary seizure or excessive taxation. This concept remains central to our freedom, prosperity, and the ability of individuals to chart their own course.
People worldwide continue to risk everything— their lives, families, and livelihoods—for a chance to live under the ideals of American liberty. This allure remains a powerful beacon for those fleeing oppressive regimes and aspiring entrepreneurs alike. The American system, built on the belief in life, liberty, and opportunity, endures as a unique and lasting promise of self-governance. As we celebrate this holiday, let us remember our founders' vision: that individual liberty, not state power, leads to human prosperity. This principle is worth defending.
This week, I continued traveling across the District to connect with constituents and local leaders, attending County Commissioner meetings in Custer, Rock and Garfield counties, in addition to having the opportunity to view the damage incurred at the Burwell Rodeo grounds from yet another strong storm.
The grit and positive attitude of the Burwell Rodeo Committee exemplifies the character of the people of the 43rd District, making me very proud to represent you in Lincoln! The world needs more of this kind of determination and problem solving.
Congratulations to four outstanding competitors from District 43 who competed at this year’s Buffalo Bill Rodeo. Garrett Shadbolt of Merriman placed 4th in Bareback Riding, Jacob Harren of Callaway was named the 2025 Champion in Tie-Down Roping, and Kayla Olson of Chadron and Misti Brown of Valentine tied for 5th in Breakaway Roping. Their success is a testament to the talent, dedication, and strong work ethic found throughout our communities, and I’m proud to recognize their achievements.
Thank you for the opportunity to represent District 43. I welcome your thoughts on legislation, concerns about local issues, or questions about the process.
Have a safe and blessed Fourth of July celebration!
Respectfully, Senator Storer
