Over 30 floats entered by businesses, clubs and churches highlighted the 1976 Pioneer Picnic Bicentennial parade. The first place float in the business category of competition was entered by Bellamy Elevators. In the church and adult clubs division the Woman’s Club float captured the top prize. The most unusual entry award went to Donald Ryun who was the organ grinder with his monkey.

The St. Boniface Altar Society ladies have assembled a baby layette which they will give away to the first baby born on the 4th of July at the Callaway Hospital. In the event that no baby is born on that date, it will be given to the first baby born after July 4.

The 1976 Callaway Alumni banquet was attended by more than 220 persons, according to alumni president Harlen VanCleave. The banquet and business meeting were conducted in the new gym. After the meal, the program was moved into the learning center in the new high school. New alumni officers elected at the banquet were Harlen VanCleave, president; Mary Jane Brestel, first vice president; Linda Lawrence, second vice president; and Donna Glendy, secretary-treasurer.

Jerry Meyer was sworn in as a new member to the Callaway Village Board to fill out the unexpired term of Ivan Phelps who resigned to become the village marshal.

In other business, the foundation for the log cabin courthouse has been completed but only temporary stairs will be installed to the entrance until the structure has had time to settle for a year or so.

Pastor Jerry Schwarz and his wife Phyllis are new to the Callaway United Methodist Church, but are not unfamiliar to the area. Pastor Jerry served at the Arnold United Methodist Church from 1984 to 1991.
