Gary Glendy, age 77 of rural Broken Bow, passed away Oct. 6, 2023, at his home.

Charles Albert Blowers Jr., age 93 of Arnold, died peacefully on Aug. 22, 2023, in Callaway.

Junior was born June 28, 1930, to Charles Albert Sr and Della (Boyer) Blowers near Arnold, at the family home. He graduated from Arnold Public Schools in 1947 at the age of 16.

Elsie Marie (Knispel) Struempler of Broken Bow, formerly of Oconto, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2023, at Brookestone View in Broken Bow at the age of 98. She was born Aug. 23, 1924, to William and Clara (Knoop) Knispel in a sod house on a farm west of Eddyville. Elsie married Herbert Struempler on Jan. 20, 1948, at the Christ Lutheran Church southwest of Oconto.

A severe thunderstorm packing incredibly strong straight-line winds rolled through Callaway during the early morning hours on Saturday, July 29, leaving residents without power for hours and downed trees all over town in its wake. Scenes like the one pictured were visible on every block in town. By Saturday evening, power was finally restored to all residents. Clean-up efforts will continue for several days.
