AUXILIARY MINUTES
Legion Auxiliary Discusses Plans For Upcoming Events Before the meeting gets started, we need help from our members, please consider helping.
The Callaway Legion Auxiliary’s October meeting was held at 6:30 p.m. at the Callaway Legion Hall.
Joyce Brestel, our President, started our meeting with a prayer, the saying of the Pledge of Allegiance, and the singing of the Star Spangled Banner, and we recited the Auxiliary Preamble. The secretary, Eileen, then read the minutes from last month. The minutes were approved as read. MaryAnn proceeded to give the treasurer’s report, which looked good.
The Fall Round Up will be on Oct. 17; the theme will be a FARM item. The VA&R and the District 6 Per Capita Tax will be turned in then also. The Meeting will be at the United Legion Post 53 in Grand Island. Registration is from 9 – 10 and will be $5. The meeting starts at 9:00; the Joint Session is from 10 – 11:30; lunch is at 12:30 and will be $15.
Eileen moved that we raise the VR&A and that we also pay the District 6 Per Capita at 40 cents per member. Judy seconded this motion, and it was approved unanimously.
After much confusion and several attempts to get these things delivered, MaryAnn has finally received the books we plan to give out to students in April.
MaryAnn also gave money that will help make the care packages to the two Guard Servicemen for the Holidays. Eileen made a motion to reimburse MaryAnn for her care package donation, the books, and the booklets that she did for the Auxiliary. Judy seconded this motion, and it received unanimous approval.
MaryAnn helped with the Bingo at the Vet’s Home in Kearney. She told us about a big improvement they have made. They now use a big screen to show the numbers that are called so the veterans can both hear and see the numbers; she said that everything went very smoothly.
Remember the leadership training that will take place in Bolus on Oct. 24 for Vickie Cyboron, the Nebraska Auxiliary President, homecoming. The homecoming will be at 5 p.m.; dinner at 5:30. If you would like to attend, it will cost $20, and you can just send it to Vickie.
The Auxiliary needs volunteers to be poppy makers.
There is a person who will come and show us how to make them. If you would like to try, call Judy at 562212-4052 and let her know.
Eileen made a motion to pay Jo for the Halloween treats she purchased. Joyce seconded the motion. It was approved.
Sara Hogg has asked the Auxiliary to help with the Kids’ Halloween Party, it runs from 2 – 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31. We will need several dozen bars or cookies. If you can help or bring treats, please contact Joyce Brestel at 308-870-2971.
Trunk or treat will be Friday, Oct. 30, after school.
Veterans Soup Supper will be Sunday, Nov. 8, from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Community Hall. We will form a committee to decide who does what. Government Day in Broken Bow is Nov. 9. We will need some kitchen help. Joyce adjourned the meeting with a prayer.
Sincerely, Eileen Wilson
