50 YEARS AGO:

Jerry’s Steak House was broken into and robbed early Tuesday morning, Jan. 20. Large quantities of merchandise and cash was missing. Apparently, the thieves gained entrance from the front door and loaded the merchandise out the back door.

The Paul Ridder Ranch won the award for Reserve Champion carload of spring bull calves at the 1976 Denver National Western Stock Show on Jan. 18.

Three new machines are now available to the public at the Community Center. They are foosball, pinball, and a juke box.

20 YEARS AGO:

The Callaway Hospital District Foundation raised approximately $2,500 from its annual Fall Ball delayed by the Thanksgiving blizzard, with 43 attending the Mardi Gras theme party at Doxsee’s Steakhouse.

Callaway High School’s speech team kicked off the 2006 season by bringing home 12 medals and 28 superior ribbons from the Broken Bow Invitational.

E Energy, a company based in Lincoln, announced plans to build an $85 million ethanol plant in Custer County starting sometime in 2007. The plant will be located about 2.5 miles west of Ansley on Highway 2.
