SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Laible Shares Life Lessons Learned
Body

Delaynie Laible is one of the members of the now-graduated Callaway High School Class of 2024. She is the daughter of Tom and Gina Laible, sister to two brothers and three sisters, aunt to two nephews and one niece, and has a Great Pyrenees named Marley. Dalaynie shared this information, as well as plans for her future and a summary of her time at CHS, during her senior presentation to the student body.

“I will be moving to Lincoln and I will continue working as a CNA or a Med Aide,” Delaynie shared, and added that she is excited about her move and the next chapter.

During her senior year Delaynie served as teacher’s aid for Mrs. Ross and also worked as a part-time para at the school. “I love the age group and I had a lot of fun in her classroom last year,” Delaynie said of her time with Mrs. Ross. “I had a paid para spot for Mrs.

Hickenbottom. Again I love this age group and I already knew Mrs. Hickenbottom from church so I knew what to expect and that we would get along.”

She shared that some of the tasks related to her positions included making copies for both teachers, “anything from worksheets to coloring pages”; cutting letters, pieces of projects, or anything random they needed; and organizing the kids’ standards sheets.

“I tried organizing the toys in preschool but it didn’t matter in 5 minutes,” she added. “I also did bulletin boards, hung up pictures, created charts, and giant paper signs.”

Her capstone project was organizing the kindergartener’s standards worksheets.

“I started by getting a binder and putting the kid’s names in alphabetical order.

Then whenever Mrs. Ross had papers to add I would sort them by whose they were and the dates they were done. I would punch holes in them and then place them in the binder.”

The transferable skills Delaynie said she acquired from her classroom experience are: “Patience - Working with small children can take a lot of patience and this can be used every day with literally anyone; and Time Management - I had a lot of big projects that I needed to get done in a certain amount of time. This is used every day with any task.”

Delaynie did her senior internship at the Callaway Good Life Center as a CNA. “While many people think that being a CNA is just wiping old people it is so much more than that,” she explained.

Though she enjoys her work as a CNA and plans to continue in that field for another couple of years, that is not what she intends for long term. “Cattle is my main focus.”

“If you have thoughts about going into the medical field in any way this is a good start for you to ease into it.

You will also learn so much about these residents and you will become close with them which makes it seem like you aren’t actually working and just enjoying good company,” Delaynie said of her time at Callaway GLC.

Her advice to her peers? “Don’t take things so seriously.”
