An Early Look At Who Will Be On Your May 14 Primary Ballot
February 15 was the deadline for all current office-holders to file for re-election in time for the May 14 primary election. March 1 was the deadline for all non-incumbents to file their intention to run in the primary election. March 1 was also the last day for the Nebraska Secretary of State to certify candidates, offices, and issues to be placed on the statewide ballot for the May 14 primary election.
Custer County Clerk Constance Gracey has released the list of candidates who have filed by those deadlines to appear on the primary ballot for city and county offices. State statute requires a primary election if the number of candidates is more than double the number of open seats.
The Custer County Board of Supervisors has three seats up for re-election in 2024, but only two of those seats will go to a primary vote. In District 2, incumbent Tammy Kleeb will be challenged by Corey Clay. District 4 will also have a primary election with Maureen Hunsberger, James Markham, Janet Hyslop Dobesh, and Ray L. Hunt all filing as Republicans. No Democrats filed for that seat and incumbent Dwain Bryner chose not to run.
The third County Board seat is for District 6, where Lynn Longmore was the lone candidate to file.
Three seats are up on the Callaway Board of Education this year, and all three incumbents have filed to retain those seats. Michael Reiff, Rhonda Pandorf, and Jim Phelps will run unopposed and move on to the general election in November.
Three candidates have filed for a seat on the Callaway District Hospital board, and therefore will appear on the primary ballot. Those candidates are James J. Jenkins, Greg Johnson, and Zachary Meyer.
The first day for early, in-person voting at the county clerk’s or election commissioner’s office is April 15. Citizens may vote early in person through May 13. The deadline to register online for in-person voting in the May 14 primary is April 29.
