Historical Society Seeks Donations For Local Projects
*Editor’s Note: The Courier would like to correct a reference in the Sept. 28 issue which should have stated that a special service was held in the historic Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Callaway. We apologize for the error and any confusion that may have resulted.
Seven Valleys Historical Society operates completely off of dues and donations. They are a 501c3, so donations can be tax deductible.
The board does write for grants and has received several to help with large repair or maintenance expenses. If you would like to make donations they can be mailed at any time to P.O box 293 Callaway, NE 68825.
You can also earmark your donation for a specific project if you would like. The Main Museum Building, the Annex Building, the Courthouse Log Cabin in the Park, the Episcopal Church, and the Jailhouse are all under the care of the historical society. If you have a preference just leave a note or say so on the memo line. The museum greatly appreciates everyone’s support.
Having visitors learn the history of our community and surrounding area, as well as the family histories in the extensive research library, is the reason the museum is here. “We appreciate any and all financial and volunteer support. We invite everyone to become more active in keeping our local history and our historical society alive.”
Recently we have had members from active Episcopal churches in North Platte, Lexington, and Broken Bow ask to have a service in the church here in Callaway that has been closed for many years. It was so enjoyable to see it being used for an active service, even though it is in need of many repairs. The good news is at this time it is getting a fresh coat of paint and the basement windows are being sealed up. All of this work is being paid for by designated funds. Unfortunately, these projects will deplete the current funds designated for the church.
Other projects currently happening are the repair of a wall in the bathroom of the main building. The gap from the current cement path in the annex to the display spaces is currently being closed, which will eliminate all the gravel surfaces. This money is coming from grant dollars designated for building improvements.
“All dues are used to help with operating expenses. Without our members, we would not be able to keep our doors open.” Dues run annually, renewable in December, and are $25 a year. Feel free to contact the historical society or Amber at Callaway Economic Development with questions.
