American Legion Auxiliary Unit 59 gathered on Aug. 10 to hear presentations by two local girls who attended the Girls State Citizenship Training Program.

Miranda Tucker and Tiersa Johnson, both students at Callaway High School, were sponsored by Unit 59. The Girls State event was held in Lincoln May 31 - June 6, and was attended by more than 300 girls from across the state. Miranda and Tiersa shared with the Auxiliary group the highlights of their experiences learning about local and state government.

Both expressed appreciation for the opportunity of hands-on learning about government and making many new friends. Ice cream sundaes were served following the presentations.
