The Callaway Village Board announced that they have hired a new town marshal. He is 21-year-old Dave Magnuson from Rio Hando, California. He has attended 10 weeks of police academy training and has received certification for police work.

The Callaway Hospital has been working on the process of upgrading the current medical facility. Seven new hospital beds have been purchased with memorial donations.

Jim Rempe of Oconto recently graduated from Reisch World Wide College of Auctioneering, Inc. in Mason City, Iowa and is available for all kinds of auctions.

Following the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon on Sept. 11, lines began to form at gas stations across the country, including local pumps where demand nearly exceeded supply. Corner Stop owner Robert Pitkin said he sold four days' supply in about 10 hours. Farmland Service Coop went dry on some of its pumps, and Bear Pad manager Linda Mowrey said they sold 5,000 gallons of gasoline and 2,500 gallons of diesel. The normal figure is about 700 gallons of gas and 400 of diesel.

Third District Congressional candidate Scott Kleeb, a Democrat from Dunning, was in Callaway Friday night to see the Sandhills Panthers play the Callaway Bears. He would also like to take the district down a different political path by putting a Democrat in a seat which has never held one.

Callaway football improved its record to 2-1 with a 42-6 drubbing of Sandhills, concluding a successful Homecoming Friday night. The Bears amassed 353 yards.
