Lady Bobcats Dominate At Overton, Boys Are Runners-Up

It’s been a long, wet, and windy spring for the South Loup Bobcat track team, yet these talented thinclads continue to dominate the track and field.

Last Tuesday, the teams traveled to Overton for the Eagles annual invitational meet. The Lady Bobcats brought home the team title with 112 points, nearly 20 points ahead of the runner-up team. The boys team were runners up with 129 points, just four points behind Axtell.

They’ve been fighting to get healthy and overcome a handful of injuries, but the Lady Bobcats are starting to mount their comeback. Charli Vickers set a new personal record in the 100-meters, as well as 4th place finish in the preliminaries and 5th in the finals. She also finished 1st in the 100-meter hurdles and 2nd in the 300-meter hurdles.

Senior Halie Recoy, coming off a foot injury, also ran in the finals of the 100-meters and finished 3rd in both the 100-meters and 200-meters.

Freshman Erin Fitzgerald grabbed 4th place in the 400-meters, and helped the 4x100 relay team finish in 2nd. Other members include Vickers, Recoy, and Josie Reiff. The 4x800 relay team finished 1st, with Fitzgerald, Ava Pandorf, Ivy Tullis, and Ella Cool bringing home the gold.

The distance runners had a highly successful day with Tullis bringing home the gold in the 800-meters with a time of 2:43.14 and a new personal record. The Bobcats garnered all three top spots in the 1600-meters with senior Talli Martin coming in 1st, Tullis in 2nd, and Ella Cool in 3rd.Martin also finished 1st in the 3200-meters.

Senior Abby Stallbaumer threw her way into gold in the discus with a distance of 119’4”. Reiff was the other medal winner in the field with a 3rd place finish in the long jump.

Martin is one of two ranked Lady Bobcats this week, ranked 10th in the 3200-meter race. Stallbaumer is ranked 10th in the discus.

On the boys team, junior Cache Gracey kept up his gold medal streak in the 400-meters with a time of 53.34. Gracey also set a new personal record in the 200-meters with a time of 22.62. Gracey, along with Silas Cool, Dylan Pandorf, and Logan Recoy, finished 1st in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:41.43.

Conner Paulsen also set a new personal record in the 200-meters with a time of 24.60 and a 4th place finish. Paulsen was a member of the 2nd place 4x100 relay team, along with Crew Witthuhn, Pandorf, and Trey Connell.

Other medal winners included Silas Cool in the 800-meter with a 2nd place finish; Recoy in the 1600-meters in 3rd place; Josiah Coleman with a 2nd place in the

3200-meters; and Crew Witthuhn with a 3rd place finish in the 110 high hurdles.

Rio Remund set a new personal record and snagged a gold medal in the shot put with a throw of 50’1”. Lance Jones finished 2nd in the shot with a throw of 43’4”. Jones finished 1st in the discus with a throw of 132’8” and Remund came in 4th with a throw of 116’7”. Pandorf came in 3rd in the triple jump with a distance of 39’0.5”.

Multiple members of the boys team are ranked in the top 10 in Class C, as well. Gracey is 7th in the 200-meters and 4th in the 400-meters. The 4x400 relay team of Pandorf, Recoy, Cool, and Gracey is ranked 5th. Remund is ranked 9th in shot put.

The Bobcats will host the Mid-Nebraska Activities Conference (MNAC) meet on Friday in Arnold. This is both a junior-and senior-high meet with events beginning at

9:30 a.m.
