The Lady Bobcats took on the Arcadia Loup-City Rebels on Tuesday, Jan. 21 in Callaway. Although the Lady Rebels came out with the win in the end, by a score of 36-17, the Lady Bobcats have shown tremendous growth over their season so far.

The Lady Rebels outscored the Lady Bobcats by 8 points in the first quarter, 6 points in the second quarter, 5 points in the third quarter and tied with both teams scoring 8 points in the fourth quarter.

Jade Bierman led the team with 5 points in the game.

Emma Stallbaumer had 4 points, Asa Starr had 3, Erin Fitzgerald and Rae Hagler scored 2 along with Kaygan Witthuhn scoring 1, ending the game with a total of 17 points. The Lady Bobcats shot 3 for 10 at the free throw line, brought down 27 rebounds in total and walked away with 10 total steals.

The Lady Bobcats took on the Ansley Litchfield Spartans on Thursday, Jan. 23, and what an exciting game that was. Ansley Litchfield led the first quarter 8-6, but the Lady Bobcats took the lead going into halftime, holding the Lady Spartans to a scoreless quarter and Hagler hitting a last second shot to end the second quarter with Bobcats 11, Spartans 8.

The Lady Bobcats came out the second half with a new defensive strategy, having Stallbaumer man-toman with number 22, Ryan and the others in a zone defense. The Spartans outscored the Bobcats by 6 points in the third quarter and retook the lead ending the quarter at Spartans 18, South Loup 15. Although the Lady Bobcats put up a great fight, they fell short of the win to the Lady Spartans 34-18.

“There is still a lot of season left to play and as long as these girls continue to grow and improve on a daily basis, the fans will continue to see a team that is full of a lot of young girls who truly love the game of basketball and work hard to do better and be better every day,” said Head Coach Ali Goodenow. “I can guarantee you that you will see a completely different team by next season and as the years come and go, these girls will continue to grow and then you’ll see the changes in the seasonal records and not just on the court.”
