On Oct. 8, the South Loup cross country team had another successful race at the Conference meet where half of the top five placers were from South Loup.

Ella Cool placed 3rd with a time of 21:02.7 which broke the South Loup record of 21:03, set in 2020 by Landon Cole. Ella’s time shows the competitiveness of this meet despite its size. There were only 15 competitors in the girls' race, but the top five runners put up very competitive times. Senior Ivy Tullis was one of those competitors earning 4th with a time of 22:00.1.

The boys' side of the meet had just as much competition with the top six runners finishing in under 20 minutes. The South Loup boys had an especially good showing with three runners in the top five and multiple more just outside that spot. The top five placers include senior Dawson Mason (19:06.2) 5th, junior Josiah Coleman (18:39.6) 4th, and freshman Jaden Baker (17:59.8) 1st. Jaden is having an exceptionally good freshman season. He is only 22 seconds behind Logan Recoy in the record book for the boys.

In addition to the athletes' exceptional performances the Conference meet brought a surge of Bobcat pride to the course. “This was such a fun meet because it was at our home course which we really know,” said Ella Cool. “We also got to experience having a student section. So many of our fellow students came to watch and even started a few cheers during the races.”
