Bobcat Runners Compete In Big Meet As Season Winds Down

The Bobcat cross country team ran the hills of the Kearney Country Club last Monday at the annual UNK Invitational Meet. This was an incredibly full meet with all four classes represented, and nearly 200 girls and 300 boys who competed in Class D. This is also the course used for the state championship meet, so many teams enter wanting a chance to run the course prior to the end of the season.

The Bobcats had one runner bring home a medal - Ella Cool placed 20th with a time of 22:49.33 and set a season record for herself. Ivy Tullis placed 56th and senior Gracie Neth shaved four minutes off her time from this meet last year.

The boys' team may not have brought home any medals, but they set a few records this meet and saw improvements from last year. Freshman Walter Bierman set a new personal record with a time of 21:22.85 and Eli Rogers set a new season record with a time of 26:35.49. Caleb McFate improved his time from last year on this course by more than 90 seconds.

The Bobcats season is beginning to wind down with the Mid-Nebraska Activities Conference meet Tuesday in Arnold, followed by the D-5 district meet on Oct. 12 in Cambridge.
