This year five of Callaways FCCLA STAR teams performed well enough at the state level to earn a trip to Nationals in San Diego, California June 28 - July 4. Those qualifiers are Sophia Doyle, Jocelyn Bailey, Emalee Glendy, Jazlynn Bechtold and Giavanna Doyle.

Callaway District Hospital hosted their annual National Hospital Week Community Appreciation barbecue on Friday, May 13. This year’s event included a special highlight following the barbecue, as the official ribbon cutting hosted by the Callaway Chamber was held for the new hospital addition and Senior Life Solutions.
Katy Cooksley, IPM coordinator for the Callaway school district, reported to the school board on the results of this year’s student testing, and was pleased to report that scores at each grade level improved from the fall to the spring testing. In many cases Callaway’s students tested above the national average.
JUNE:
Callaway District Hospital and Medical Clinics has welcomed some exciting growth and expansion in recent months, and they aren’t done yet. The facility administration has announced that land has been acquired and plans are underway to erect a new clinic in Arnold.
A major storm rolled through the village of Callaway Sunday evening, June 5, packing strong winds, heavy rain and large hail. As residents emerged from the shelter of their homes after the storm had passed, many discovered mass devastation to their homes and vehicles. Windows were shattered, vehicles damaged nearly beyond recognition. Some residents described the sound of breaking glass as shards flew into homes and downtown business buildings. Trees were stripped of their leaves and small branches, which now littered the streets and yards like a layer of 1970s shag carpeting. But…this is Callaway. Now the work begins.
The theme of the 2022 Pioneer Picnic was “Bring On The Rain” - appropriate for the times. The parade down Kimball Street featured floats, classic cars, horses and the Callaway school marching band. Both sides of Kimball Street were lined with spectators, and thanks to the gorgeous weather folks weren’t clamoring to find every available shade hole.
