The South Loup Bobcat cross country teams traveled to Cozad on Saturday for their second high school meet of the season and had two placers, despite not having a full girls team this week. The junior high team had one placer.
The high school boys placed 9th as a team, and junior Logan Recoy placed 4th individually with a time of 18:14.2. The boys running this week were Recoy, Josiah Coleman, Caleb McFate, and Eli Rogers.
The high school girls only had two runners this week, but sophomore Ivy Tullis placed 9th with a time of 22:45.
The other runner for the girls was junior Gracie Neth, who ran a personal best this meet, shaving three minutes off her previous recorded time.
Logan Recoy broke his previous school record on Saturday, and every Bobcat runner improved upon their times from last year’s meet.
The junior high cross country team competed for the first time this season with Jade Bierman finishing 1st with a time of 6:17.
The junior high course is only a 1-mile course compared to the high school’s 5K route. Last week’s high school meet at Burwell was only 4K, so this week’s times are a bit longer.
Other junior high runners included EvaLynn Wonch, Walter Bierman, and Patrick Eggleston.
“Cozad is our first meet where we ran the full distance and I was very impressed with how everyone did on Saturday,” said head coach Nicole Recoy. “This is a tougher, but good meet, to run at. We competed against some bigger schools.”
The Bobcats will travel to Broken Bow on Saturday for both high school and junior high meets at the Broken Bow Country Club. Both start at 10 a.m.
