Twelve Lady Bobcats headed to Burke Stadium in Omaha for the Class C NSAA State Track and Field Championships May 20-21 with three returning home with hardware in tow.

Reagan Cool battled a tough field of pole vaulters as 12 of the 19 competitors cleared 10 feet, the height that Cool reached last  year for fourth place.

This year, the senior vaulter improved her previous mark, clearing 10 feet, 6 inches on her third attempt to earn herself the eighth place medal and tying her own school record.

Abby Stallbaumer had her second-best throw of the season with a 134 feet, 6 inch toss for fourth place, four places better than her performance at state last season.

The 4 x 800 meter relay team of Ivy Tullis, Faith Bierman, Heidi Donnegan and Tallianna Martin all competed for the first time on the state stage, earning a 16th place finish.

Bryn Schwarz took 22nd in the 100 meters.

Freshman distance runner Ella Cool, hindered by injury the past several weeks in both competition and training, overcame that challenge by running her second-fastest time of the season for 15th place in the 3200 meters.

Charli Vickers broke her own school record in the district meet just one week ago in the 300 hurdles with her second place finish to qualify for the state meet.

In Omaha, the sophomore hurdler competed hard against a tough field and finished 21 in the event.

Joslyn Reif, Schwarz, Taylor Ross and Haile Recoy came into the state meet ranked 13th in the field of 4 x 100 meter relay teams.

The quartet finished 13th, but was one difficult handoff away from finishing higher.

The 1600 meter run featured Martin and Tullis who have pushed one another throughout the year in the event.

Martin battled a tough field and stayed in second place through much of the final lap until the final stretch when the pack caught up and the lean at the tape found Martin in seventh place with a new school record.

Tullis finished in 18th.

With three competitors returning home with hardware, and a batch of experience for many underclassmen, the future of the South Loup girls’ track program is bright in the coming years.
