Tough Week of Hard-Fought Volleyball For Lady Bobcats
It was a tough week for South Loup volleyball last week, as the Lady Bobcats played four matches but were unable to come out on top in any of them.
The stretch began on Thursday, Sept. 10, when the Bobcats hosted Gothenburg in Arnold. While South Loup managed to stay fairly close to the Swedes in the first two sets, they were never quite able to get over the hump and gain control of the game. Gothenburg went on to get the sweep, 25-18, 25-19, and 25-16.
Olivia Fitzgerald and Emma Stallbaumer each recorded 4 kills against the Swedes, while Asa Starr and Berklee Preson each had 3 kills. Amelia Pandorf, a freshman, landed 2 ace serves for the Bobcats. On the defense for South Loup, Charli Pandorf and Preston each scooped up 7 digs, while Rae Hagler had 5 digs, and Amelia Pandorf and Fitzgerald both had 4 digs.
On Saturday, the Bobcats traveled to Brady for a tournament, with their first opponent of the day being the home team. Brady came out on top in two sets, 25-19 and 25-16.
The team got a very short break before their next game against Twin Loup. The Bobcats came out playing well, narrowly missing the victory in set one as Twin Loup was able to hold on for a 25-23 win. Twin Loup carried that momentum into set two, winning that one 25-16.
The final game of the tournament pitted the Bobcats against the Medicine Valley Raiders in what would be a very close match. South Loup found renewed energy as they hit the court for their third match of the day, coming away with a 25-19 win in set one.
Set two was a hard-fought battle requiring extra points to determine a winner, as Medicine Valley held on to win the set 27-25. Both teams also played hard in the third set, but it was the Raiders coming out on top, 25-21.
Stats were not available for any of the Brady tournament matches.
The Lady Bobcats were back in Brady on Tuesday, Sept. 15, for a triangular with the Eagles and Bertrand. They will be back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 22, for a triangular with Anselmo-Merna and Elm Creek at Elm Creek. The first game is set for 5 p.m.
