The South Loup football team improved its record to 2-1 following a dominating win over the Hi-Line Bulls in Eustis on Friday, Sept. 11.

While the Bulls were able to get in the end zone during the first quarter, their defense had its hands full with the South Loup offensive attack. The Bobcats put up 16 points in the first quarter of play, and added another 22 points in the second quarter. Meanwhile, the Bobcats defense tightened up in the second, not allowing any Hi Line points, as South Loup took a 38-6 lead into the halftime locker room. That cushion allowed the Bobcats an opportunity to give some of the younger players some experience on the field in the second half. South Loup scored the only points of the third quarter, adding 6 to their side of the board. The Bulls found the end zone twice in the final eight minutes of the game while holding the Bobcats scoreless to end the game 44-18. Junior quarterback Tysen Schacher was perfect on the night, completing all 5 of his pass attempts for 178 yards and a touchdown. However, it was on the ground where Schacher proved to be most dangerous. He kept the ball 18 times in the game, racking up an impressive 163 yards rushing that included 4 touchdowns.

Sophomore Dawson Downing scored the other rushing touchdown for the Bobcats as he finished the night with 18 yards on 3 carries. Downing also had a 47 yard pass reception. Jett Morgan was on the receiving end of the touchdown pass from Schacher, one of 3 receptions on the night for him, resulting in 109 yards. Jacob King was the target for the other pass completion, good for 22 yards.

Also contributing to the ground attack for the Bobcats were Elijah Cool with 42 yards on 7 carries, and freshman Jaxsen Schacher with 42 yards on 5 carries. Mike Corliss got the call 5 times, picking up 35 yards.

Sophomore Remi Flynn led the defense for the Bobcats with 4 solo tackles and 4 assists, with 1 tackle for lost yardage. Malachi Neth had 4 solo tackles and 3 assists, and was credited with a quarterback sack. Meanwhile, 2 of Callan Witthuhn’s 4 total tackles resulted in lost yards, and Cool finished the night with 7 tackles and 1 for loss. Another defensive highlight was an interception by Morgan.

This week the Bobcats travel way out west to Hemingford on Friday, Sept. 18, with kickoff set for 2 p.m. Mountain Time.
