The South Loup cross country team had their second outing of the 2026 season as they traveled to Cozad on Thursday, Sept. 3, for a highly competitive meet against much larger schools. The women’s team had a phenomenal day, finishing second in the team standings behind first-place Holdrege by only two points. Other participating teams were Ogallala, North Platte, Hershey, and Cozad.

The Lady Bobcats were led by senior Jade Bierman, who finished 7th with a time of 23:13. Fellow senior Delanie Weinman came in 11th place with a time of 24:08, with teammate Chloe Coleman, a sophomore, right behind her at 24:11. Junior Danielle Burd had a time of 26:27 to finish in 21st place, while freshman Lia Russell had a time of 26:41 for 24th place. Tasia Trotter rounded out the South Loup girls’ team in the field of 39 runners with a time of 29:03.

With only two guys on the South Loup squad, they are not able to compete as a team, but individually, senior Walter Bierman finished 13th overall in a time of 19:24. Freshman Dagen Fletcher turned in a time of 21:52 for 45th place in the field of 81 total runners.

Holdrege easily won the men’s division, followed by host team Cozad. The cross country team will compete in Broken Bow on Saturday, Sept. 12, with a start time of 9 a.m.
