BLAST FROM THE PAST 50 YEARS AGO:
The new Village Board members were given the oath of office at the June 1 meeting by the village clerk. The board members elected in the primary election are Ron Sheppard, M.D., and Charles M. Myers.
A large crowd was in attendance at the first Bicentennial Kangaroo Court held June 5, 1976, at the Callaway Community Hall. Jerry Meyer gave opening comments and an introduction to the musical entertainment provided first by Steve and Karen Axtell at the piano. Later, more entertainment came from the kitchen band directed by Roger Jorgenson.
The Callaway Board of Education voted 6-0 to spend $6,800 for a new computer program designed to keep tabs of individual student school lunch accounts, a laptop computer to run it, and the training for school secretary Keri Patterson, whose job it is to keep the accounts up to date. The board also voted to approve Superintendent Pat Osmond’s employment contract. Terms were not disclosed; however, he will no longer be shared with Stapleton.
Callaway students took part in a week-long computer camp taught by Anna Warner in the business room of the Callaway High School. Some of the things taught to the students were Internet safety, how to access web pages, how to get pictures from the Internet and place them in documents and slide show presentations, and how to print from the Internet.
