The South Loup golf team competed in two meets last week, as they traveled the short distance to Broken Bow for the Anselmo/Merna quad on Tuesday, and to Hershey on Thursday. The team had a good showing at both meets and came home on April 14 with the team championship from the quad.

The Bobcats had the top two golfers on the day, with Haydn Stretesky carding the low score in the 9-hole competition of 41. Close behind was Crew Witthuhn with 45 (Haydn and Crew are pictured on front), and Callan Witthuhn with 49. Kyson Stretesky finished the course with 54 strokes, while Dawson Downing was just one stroke behind with 55 to round out the team.

The quadrangular meet included the host team Anselmo/Merna, South Loup, Broken Bow, and Sandhills Valley.

Riding on the high from the good day in Broken Bow, the team headed west to Hershey on April 16 and competed in a 12-team invitational. The competition at the Hershey meet was very challenging, and the Bobcats finished in 10th place in the team standings.

Haydn Stretesky once again led the team in the full 18-hole meet. He shot a 50 on the front nine, but improved his score on the back nine to 43 to finish with a 93. Crew Witthuhn shot 47 in the front nine and 55 on the back side, to finish with 102.

Callan Witthuhn carded 55 strokes in the front nine and 49 in the back for a 104 total. Dawson Downing was the most consistent of the Bobcat golfers, shooting 53 on the front and 54 on the back for 107, while Kyson Stretesky finished the front nine with 67 and the back with 56 for a 123.

The host school, Hershey, won the team title by one stroke over North Platte Blue. The individual low score of 76 was shot by Hershey’s Aidan Truesdale, with his teammate Houston Hill coming in second with 79.

Today, April 23, the team is at Thedford for their only meet of the week. They will be back on the course at Thedford next Thursday, April 30, for the MNAC meet with a 10 a.m. tee time.
