50 YEARS AGO:
Callaway was officially recognized as a Bicentennial Community in ceremonies held in the Callaway High School gymnasium on April 4. Forrest Cook, chairman of the Callaway Village Board, was presented with a large flag bearing the logo of the American Revolutionary Bicentennial Commission.
The Annual American Legion Birthday Dinner was held at the Legion Hall in Callaway. There were 37 people present for the potluck supper.
20 YEARS AGO:
Callaway United Methodist Church Pastor Jerry Schwarz presented a 75-year membership pin and certificate to Dorothy Bonde. Dorothy has actually been a church member for 82 years, and currently resides in Sandhills Manor in Broken Bow.
American Legion Post 250 of Oconto has selected Greg Spangler, son of Bruce and Diane Spangler of Callaway, and Kimberly Pierce, daughter of Ken and Kay Pierce of Callaway, as representatives to Cornhusker Boys and Girls State.
