Minutes of Legion Auxiliary March Meeting

The Callaway American Legion Auxiliary’s monthly meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. at the Callaway Legion Hall on March 9, 2026. Those of us that could meet, got together at 5:30 to take on the task of judging our Legion Auxiliary scholarship applications. We had several applications, all were very deserving of winning this honor.

Our President, Cora Belew, called the meeting to order after we were finished with our judging. Our Chaplain Joyce Brestel started with a prayer. We then followed our President in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, singing the Star Spangled Banner, and saying the Auxiliary Preamble. The minutes of our last meeting were read by the secretary. There was one correction, if anyone wants to help with Girls State they can contact Vickie Ozenbaugh, Chairman of Girls State, at 402-759-0411, and she will tell you what she needs help with. With this correction, Jo made a motion to approve the minutes as read and Joyce seconded the motion and it received unanimous approval.

MaryAnn gave the financial report, and we are making headway on our delinquent dues. We still need to hear from some of our members, but we are gaining. We did have a new member attend our meeting, Judy Jacobson. All our bills were paid and as of now, we are looking great. Jo made a motion to approve the financial report as read and Joyce seconded this move. It was approved unanimously.

At the District 6 Convention in Kearney on March 7, our Prayer Book, our Center Piece, our History Book and our Unit Handbook all received 1st place. The Publicity Book received 2nd place. Cora’s cinnamon rolls received a good bid and were purchased at the convention.

We need to get together and fill out reports for Departments and to judge the Poppy Posters also. We will try to do this on March 19, at 10 a.m. These reports need to be mailed back to Department and the Poppy Poster Winners will need to be mailed back also.

The South Loup Prom will be Saturday, April 25. We have been asked to donate to the After Prom Party.

Jo made a motion to donate $50 to the After Prom Party, MaryAnn seconded this motion and it received unanimous approval.

Everything is set for the Legion Birthday Party on March 22 at 2 p.m. There will be a Quilt of Valor quilt presented at the party. We will have cake and ice cream, and Emmery Haynes will give a short talk on things that can benefit Veterans. There will be Continuous Memberships Awards presented also.

We are still looking for ideas to help celebrate America’s 250-year Birthday. Any ideas contact us.

The meeting concluded with a prayer from our Chaplain and Cora adjourned the meeting.

Sincerely, Eileen Wilson, Secretary
