50 YEARS AGO:
At the February meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, the People Improving Callaway (PIC) committee was established, and the first project of the downtown improvement plan is now underway. Chamber President Dale Farmer, Robert Pitkin, and Jim Smith painted the old Lamb and Stephenson Hardware Store.
Sheryl Myers of Callaway has been elected vice president of the Student Senate at Chadron State College. The junior is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Myers.
20 YEARS AGO:
Mrs. Iris Anderson has announced she will retire from Callaway Public Schools at the end of the 2005-06 school year. Anderson has been teaching in the same classroom at Callaway for 34 years, and currently teaches second grade.
The unseasonably dry and warm conditions are the perfect scenario for grass fires, and last Thursday the Callaway Volunteer Fire Department sent three rigs and personnel to help the Arnold firefighters douse a grass fire a few miles southwest of Arnold.
