South Loup Boys Sweep the Weekend
The South Loup Bobcats capped off a strong weekend of basketball with a pair of well-earned wins, hamstringing the Mullen Broncos in a 54–45 victory on Friday, Feb. 6 before hitting the road to take a 60–46 win over Southern Valley on Saturday, Feb. 7. The two successes showcased South Loup’s balanced scoring and veteran presence, with the trio of solid seniors Dylan Pandorf, Conner Paulsen, and Crew Witthuhn leading the charge.
In front of a home crowd, the Bobcats outpaced the Mullen Broncos behind a steady defensive effort and consistent scoring across the board. South Loup led narrowly at halftime, 27–18 and maintained control through the final quarter to seal the win.
Crew Witthuhn poured in 19 points to lead all scorers, hitting seven of 11 free throws and adding 9 rebounds, 8 steals, and a block in an all-around performance. Paulsen added 15 points, while Pandorf contributed 14 points and 6 rebounds on 6-of-9 shooting.
South Loup’s defense proved decisive, forcing 23 Mullen turnovers and collecting 17 steals as a team. The Bobcats finished 18-of-44 from two-point range and 15-of-26 from the foul line. Senior Caleb Furrow anchored the inside with 6 rebounds and 2 steals.
Mullen was led by Jacob Walker with 17 points and 9 rebounds, while Alex Werner added 14 points.
The Bobcats carried their momentum into Saturday’s road matchup in Oxford, controlling the game against the Eagles from start to finish. By half-time, they had built a 28-20 lead, and they continued to pour fuel on the fire in the final quarters, winning easily 60-46. South Loup shot 43% from the field and dominated the glass, outrebounding Southern Valley 31–30 while forcing 20 turnovers.
Pandorf had the hot hand inside, racking up 24 points on 11-of-17 shooting to go along with 8 steals and 3 assists. Crew Witthuhn chalked up a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds, while Paulsen chipped in 8 points and 4 assists.
Freshman Hudson Vickers added 4 points and 3 boards off the bench, and Furrow contributed 4 points and 2 rebounds.
For the Eagles, Isaac Hamilton led the way with 24 points, while freshman Houston Hunt scored 11 on the effort.
South Loup’s twin victories improved their record to 8-10 on the season as they head into their final regular games of 2026. On Tuesday, Feb. 10 they looked to capitalize on the weekend’s momentum as they took on the 11-9 Anselmo-Merna Coyotes on the road. Those results were not available by press time and will feature in next week’s Courier.
Tomorrow, Feb. 13, the Bobcats will host the Hi-Line Bulls at Arnold, with tip-off set for 7 p.m.
