Bobcats Second at MNAC Golf
After a season of battling every element possible, the Bobcats were granted a brilliant day on April 28 to host the MNAC Golf Championships at the Arnold Golf Course.
“We had a perfect day of weather,” head coach Jarod Rush said. “Unfortunately, I think we are used to playing in the wind. We didn’t perform our best.”
Despite this, excitement was still in the air as the final scores came in. Bobcat golfer Colbi Smith tied for the low round on the day with Jhet Holthus of Hyannis.
“Jhet made a great shot out of the bushes to put the ball a couple of feet from the pin during the playoff,” Rush said. Smith took second on the day. Grant Hrupek had a great day on the course on April 28 as the only Bobcat scorer to improve on his score.
“He shot a 103 and secured the 10th place medal,” Rush said. “It was good to see Grant have a good day. He had been struggling and he kind of turned it around.” Dylan Handley finished just three shots out of medal-contention with a 106 for 13th place and Joey Sallach finished 15th with his round of 107. Rush said in spite of the good weather, he had hoped that his team would have performed better, but was still happy with the second place team finish.
“If you play golf long enough, you have those days that things just don’t work,” he said. On April 25, Smith competed in the Hershey Invitational at River’s Edge Golf Club in North Platte. Smith was the lone Bobcat to make the trip as Callaway had MAPs testing and the Community Cleanup was happening for his teammates.
Smith took second place in the tournament, playing his round of 18 for a 79, only four strokes behind the winning round. The Bobcats will see their next round of action on May 5 when they travel to the North Platte St. Pat’s Invitational at River’s Edge Golf Club in North Platte for a 9 a.m. tee time. Then, on May 11, the South Loup golfers will head north to Mullen for an 11 a.m. start of the Mullen Invitational.
