As another year has come to a close, we remember those we lost. The following obituaries and death notices appeared in the Callaway Courier between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2025. They are listed in order of publication.

Matthew Johnson, 51 of Kearney, passed away on Monday, Jan. 13, 2025. He was born on Nov. 28, 1973, in Broken Bow, to Greg and Tammy (Neben) Johnson.

Dr. Perry Ray Griffith, 81 of Huntington Beach, California, formerly of Callaway, passed away on Feb. 25, 2025. Perry was born on Jan. 17, 1944, to Clark “Ted” Theodore and Sadie Joyce (Moore) Griffith in Callaway.

Kathren (Kate) Irene (Crow) Henry, 92 of Callaway, passed away Feb. 24, 2025, at Burwell. She was born Oct. 9, 1932, to Leslie A. and Sophia N.J. (Beyer) Crow, at their farmhouse five miles south of Arnold.

Gene Edward Klein, 97, passed away on Feb. 1, 2025. Gene was born on Oct. 8, 1927, in Oconto, to Daisy Klein and Edd Klein.

Nadia M. Meyer, 88 of Callaway, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at the Callaway Good Life Center. Nadia was born in Kearney on Sept. 13, 1936, to James and Frances (Kring) Williams.

Mona M. 'Mickey' Gavin, 85 of Callaway, passed away on April 22, 2025. Mona was born on Jan. 2, 1940, in Huron, South Dakota to Eugene William Van Doren and Marjorie Ruth Gilchrist.

Joyce Augusta (Haring) Bonde, 94, joined her Lord and Savior on March 5, 2025, in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Clarence Wesley and Clara Lucetia (Monie) Haring gave birth to Joyce on Nov. 22, 1930, on a farm near Riverton.

Shirley Ann Schoenrock, 92 of Wahoo, formerly of Callaway, passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2025. Shirley was born Dec. 4, 1932, and was raised by Lester and Malinda Hummel.

Kay J. Nelsen, age 84 of Broken Bow, passed away on May 10, 2025. Kay Janice (Robertson) Nelsen was born to William and V. Irene (Overgard) Robertson near Callaway on July 5, 1940.

Lane R. Nansel, 89 of Kearney, passed away Friday, May 30, 2025. Lane was born April 7, 1936, in Arnold, to Charles Godfrey Nansel and Mildred “Kitty” Irene (Mason) Nansel.

Mary Ellen (Smith) Cooley passed away on Nov. 5, 2024, in Melbourne Beach, Florida at the age of 99. Mary was born in Kearney on March 10, 1925, to Earl and Merle (Blowers) Smith of Kearney.

Edna Lucille Whaley, age 107 of Broken Bow, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025. She was born Nov. 29, 1917, to Franklin Homer and Theresa (Tracy) Augusta Keim on a farm near Bruning in Thayer County.

On Tuesday, June 24, 2025, Trenton Paul Walz of Mullen, died at the age of 45. Trent was born Jan. 29, 1980, in Macon, Missouri to Paul and Vickie (Blake) Walz.

Kenneth Lavern Pierce, 68 of North Platte, passed away July 11, 2025. Ken was born to Allyn and Shirley Pierce in Callaway on Jan. 9, 1957.

Gary Wayne Eastwood, 71 of Callaway, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 28, 2025, at his home. Gary was born on Aug. 15, 1953, in Arnold, to Wylie and Joan (Pearson) Eastwood.

Norman Lee Bonde, age 85, passed away on July 28, 2025, in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Henry Bonde and Rachel (Spangler) Bonde gave birth to Norman on Aug. 27, 1939, at the hospital in Gothenburg.

Wanda “Bonnie” Eggleston, age 94 of Oconto, passed away Aug. 6, 2025. Wanda Marie Eggleston was born one mile east of Oconto, on March 3, 1931, to Clifford Alvin and Leota Lucille (Flint) Martin.

Elizabeth “Lou” L. Kmoch, 63 of Callaway, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2025. Elizabeth Louise Heller was born Jan. 9, 1962, at Great Bend, Kansas.

Milrae K. Dittmar, age 82 of Oconto, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2025. Milrae was born on Aug. 26, 1943, at Broken Bow, to Isaac and Ada (Martin) Mason.

Doris Hendricks, age 94 of Broken Bow, passed away on Oct. 19, 2025. Doris Emma Hendricks was born on Oct. 24, 1930, to L.D. “Dewey” and Irma (Huenefeld) Fochtman.

June Helen (Roork) Sheppard, 80 of Callaway, passed away on Oct. 26, 2025. June was born on July 8, 1945, in Bridgeton, New Jersey to Isaac Evans and Helen (Meyers) Roork.

Gloria Jean Lehmkuhler, 75, went to be with the Lord on Nov. 15, 2025. She was born on Dec. 12, 1949, to Irvin and Lillian Whipple.

Thomas Joseph Kennedy, Sr., 86 of Callaway, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 4, 2025. Tom was born in Rosebud, South Dakota, on Dec. 7, 1938, to William and Susie Kennedy.

James Leonard of Holdrege passed away on Dec. 10, 2025. James Dean Leonard was born on June 1, 1933, in Oconto, to Loren and Gladys (Smith) Leonard.

Mary Anne Cool, age 80 of rural Callaway, passed away on Dec. 17, 2025. Born on Jan. 19, 1945, in Grand Island, she was the daughter of Ray and Viola Ritchie.
