The Lower Loup Natural Resources District has enacted a campfire ban at its recreation areas. The policy was put in place due to extremely dry conditions in the District. The ban applies to Davis Creek Recreation Area near North Loup in Greeley and Valley counties, and at Pibel Lake Recreation Area in Wheeler County. The ban applies to the entirety of properties, including provided fire rings and grills in picnic areas and campgrounds.

This ban also applies to all open-fired grills including charcoal grills. Propane grills are allowed and should be used only in areas free of grass, leaves or other combustible materials. Fire extinguishers and/or buckets of water, and a shovel, should be kept handy in the event of an unintended spark.

Additionally, vehicles should not enter areas of tall grass. This policy is in effect until further notice.
