50 YEARS AGO:    

The Seven Valleys 4-H Club organizational meeting was held at the Callaway Community Center with the following officers elected: Greg Ridder, president; Tony Reinhard, vice-president; Sulin Pierce, secretary; Gina Street, treasurer; and Jim Kolbo, news reporter.

Blue Hill was the scene of Callaway’s final football game as the Bears were defeated by Lawrence, 41-16, in state playoff action on Nov. 7. Meanwhile, the Callaway Bearettes closed their volleyball season when they were defeated by the Elba Bluejays in the championship game of the D-10 volleyball tournament.

20 YEARS AGO:

Influenza vaccine supplies are about a third of what they should be at Callaway District Hospital and Medical Clinic. For that reason, the priority for who can get flu shots will be those most at risk.

A community breakfast will be hosted by the Callaway Playground Equipment Committee at the Callaway Community Center. Hunters and the public are invited to enjoy pancakes, sausage, cinnamon rolls, hot drinks, and juice for a free-will donation.
