It was a busy week of volleyball for the Lady Bobcats as they traveled to Gothenburg on Thursday, Sept. 11, to take on the Class C powerhouse Swedes before hosting their own tournament on Saturday.

While Gothenburg had the clear advantage as defending Southwest Conference and District Champions, the game provided good experience against high-level competition for South Loup. The Bobcats lost in three sets: 11-25, 2-25, and 7-25.

On Saturday, Sept. 13, the Lady Bobcats hosted the Seven Valleys Tournament in Callaway, with their first opponent of the day being the Twin Loup Wolves. South Loup got off to a good start and was able to win the first set, 25-19, to give the team some much-needed confidence.

Twin Loup rallied back in set two, however, to get the win 25-20. In tournament play, teams play the best two sets out of three, rather than the typical three out of five. With the game tied at one set apiece, they moved into a third set to determine the winner. It was a tough battle, but the Bobcats were able to hold on to take the set 25-20 and get their first win of the season, defeating Twin Loup 2-1.

The Lady Bobcats’ next opponent was a tough Mullen team, who got the sweep over South Loup, 16-25 and 12-25.

The Bobcats faced Sandhills-Thedford in their third and final game of the tournament. The first set was a battle as points were exchanged back and forth. In the end, it was Sandhills-Thedford getting the win, 25-23.

The Knights had all the momentum heading into the second set, defeating South Loup 25-15 to win the match 2-0.

The Lady Bobcats were back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 15, as they hosted a triangular with Brady and Bertrand in Callaway. They now have a break for the rest of the week and will be back on the court on Tuesday, Sept. 23, for a triangular at Merna with Anselmo-Merna and Elm Creek. Play is set to begin at 5 p.m. .
