50 YEARS AGO:

The Callaway Hospital marked one year this month since Dr. Sheppard started practicing and the hospital opened its doors. Since the first patient walked through the doors, a total of 188 followed, 10 babies were born, and 33 out-patients were served.

The Callaway Bears pushed their record to 2-0 by defeating the Arcadia Huskies 28-0. Leading rusher for Callaway was Monty Birnie with 86 yards. Leading receiver was Duane Hickenbottom with 2 catches for 81 yards. Leading tackler was David Welch with 13 tackles.

20 YEARS AGO:
 

Sixth grader Jessie Coons came up with the idea for her class to put on a bake sale during Friday night’s games to help victims of Hurricane Katrina in Mississippi and Louisiana. The fundraiser netted $370.
 

The Callaway Village Board of Trustees passed the 2005-06 budget and set its tax levy. The village will seek $72,910 in property taxes with a total budget of $950,000.
