Area Wrestling Camp Features Legendary Clinicians
Though practice for high school athletics takes a break during the summer months, many athletes take the opportunity to attend various camps throughout the off-season designed to help them improve their skills and techniques. For area wrestlers, one such camp is being conducted this month in nearby Gothenburg.
Eight years ago, Gothenburg High School wrestling coach Tom Scott had a dream of putting on a camp that would equip young wrestlers to help make them better at their sport. He recruited Penn State wrestling standout David Taylor to help, and the first camp in 2017 bore his name - the David Taylor Legendary Coaches Camp.
The following year, the name was changed to Legends Wrestling Camp, and since then, what started as a camp to draw local wrestlers has grown to attract wrestling teams from across several states. Taylor went on to win the gold medal for the USA in the 2020 Summer Olympics and add even more credibility to the camp.
Each year, the camp attracts several hundred wrestlers, both boys and girls, and Scott said he anticipates this year to meet those numbers once again, considering the lineup of technicians and clinicians who are scheduled to attend.
The 2025 Legends Wrestling Camp will be held at Gothenburg High School June 25-27. This year’s clinicians are: Roman Bravo-Young - a two-time National Champion and four-time All-American at Penn State who competed for Mexico in the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Nate Jackson - a National Team Member for the last few years. Marissa Gallegos - a Division I National Champion from Mesa University. Isabella Morales - a three-time Division I All-American. Dalton Jensen - was the UNK head men's coach when they won the National Title, and he is this year’s Division II National Coach of the Year.
Jayden Miller - a Gothenburg alumnus and the head women's coach at Northern Oklahoma College.
The Legends Wrestling Camp is open to all students in 2nd - 12th grades. For more information or to register, contact Tom Scott at 402-890-4238 as soon as possible.
