Body

The Callaway American Legion Auxiliary’s monthly meeting started at 6:30 p.m. at the Callaway Legion Hall on March 10, 2025. President Jane Lashley called the meeting to order. Chaplin Joyce Brestel started the meeting with a prayer. We then followed our President with the Pledge of Allegiance, sang the Star Spangled Banner and recited the Auxiliary Preamble. The meeting began with the secretary reading the minutes of our Feb. 10 meeting. MaryAnn gave the financial report and everything was good.

At the District 6 Convention which MaryAnn attended in Grand Island on March 8 and 9, it was announced that our membership was 100% paid up for their dues. We received several awards at the convention. First place was our Centerpiece, our History Book, and our Publicity Book. We received second place for our Prayer Book and our Handbook. So, we give a big thank you to everyone who worked on these books. We finalized plans for the Legion Birthday party on March 23 at the Legion Hall in Callaway. It will be at 2:00 p.m. and everyone that wants to wish the Legion a Happy Birthday is welcome to attend. We should have a special guest, Danny DeLong, attending. Many know Danny so come and say hi.

The Department has passed a motion that donations will no longer be given for Gold Star Sisters, Brothers and Families, instead the donations will go to VA & R Gift Shop Program.

Amanda Washburn’s new project is a prayer book for all. If you have prayers you would like to donate, please submit to the State Department by May 15th.

A motion was made by Jo Chesley to give a monetary gift to the Legion to help with the expenses of the Legion Hall. Cora seconded this motion, and it received unanimous approval.

Poppy Posters judging will be March 17 at 2:00 p.m. at the Legion Hall.

Cora made a motion to keep dues for this next year the same as they are now, $32. Jo seconded this motion and it received unanimous approval.

We will gather on April 7th at 10:00 a.m. to fill out department forms. We will also need to turn in our personnel hours that we have accumulated over the past year.

Cora made a motion to look into the cost of Chicken Soup for Veterans books to give to veterans. Jo seconded this motion and it received unanimous approval.

The meeting was concluded with Joyce reading a prayer and Jane concluding the meeting.

Sincerely, Eileen Wilson .
