Bobcat Boys Third at Elwood Invitational
The South Loup boys' track team took third place in the 13-team Elwood Invitational April 1, scoring 54 points and coach Laney Chesley was thrilled with the performance of his team.lt was just one of those meets where every athlete seemed to give an outstanding effort, not only bringing home a handful of medals but also attaining 16 new personal-records. Coach Chesley was perhaps the most encouraged by the effort given by the two relays that placed.
The boys started out the day by winning the 3200 meter relay in a personal best without Silas Cool, one of their most consistent runners. Cool was still finishing up the pole vault competition, which had gone long because of the large number of kids in the event. The quartet of Cache Gracey, Trey Connell, Dawson Mason and Logan Recoy easily won the opening event.
The final event of the day, the 4x400 meter relay, was just as pleasing for Coach Chesley, as Rio Remund, Recoy, Lance Wooters, and Jami Tickle gave a great effort to win a sixth place medal. Gracey and Cool had one of the more exciting races of the day as they battled down the home stretch to finish first and second in the 800. The 1600 meter run was a similar race, as Recoy and Connell battled throughout the race, with South Loup runners crossing the line first and second in this event as well. The other placers on the day were Jake Halstead and Rio Remund, fifth and sixth, respectively, in the shot put, Silas Cool took fifth in the pole vault, and freshman A.J. Starr leapt his way to third in the triple jump. The Bobcats host the South Loup Invitational on April 8 at Arnold, beginning at 10 a.m.
