Lady Bobcats Dominate Hi-Line Invitational
The Lady Bobcats showed the ability that this team has in their first scored meet of the year on Aprill at Elwood.
The Lady Bobcats dominated the 13- team meet scoring more than double of the 2nd place team. Coach Weverka was very enthused that it was the fourth year in a row that South Loup has won the combined competition.
"The girls, from top to bottom, really showed up," head coach Mike Weverka said. "You could just see the glow in their eyes of confidence, which led to very good performances."
The Lady Bobcats showed versatility in that they scored in 15 of the 17 events as well as winning all three relays in season-best performances.
The sprint duo of Halie Recoy and Bryn Schwarz was especially impressive, going 1st and 2nd in both the 100 and 200 meters. The three girls in the 1600 meter went 1-2-3 as freshman Ivy Tullis and junior Talianna Martin raced down the home stretch to decide the winner.
They were followed by freshman Ella Cool setting a personal record and placing third. All three relays ran faster in their winning performances than they had at this time last year.
One of the better performances on the day was by Josie Rieff, who ran her personal best in the 200 meter and became the third Bobcat to place in that race. It was also apparent that Mr. Schwarz's sprint program, Feed The Cats, was really succeeding in making many of our runners more efficient in their running technique.
The Lady Bobcats are at home on April 8 to host the Bobcat Invitational at Arnold.
They will be somewhat short handed, as many of the Callaway girls will be attending FFA State Convention, but with the balanced effort that the girls are showing, and with different girls performing better than expected every week, a high team place is possible.
