Legion Auxiliary Prepares For Busy Holiday Season
The Callaway American Legion Auxiliary monthly meeting started at 6:30 at the Callaway Legion Hall on Nov. 11, 2024. Our President Jane Lashley called the meeting to order. Our chaplain Joyce read the prayer. We said the Pledge of Allegiance, sang the Star Spangled Banner and recited our Auxiliary Preamble.
Our secretary Eileen read the minutes from the Oct.
4 meeting, and they were approved. MaryAnn Boldt presented the financial report. We have a balance of $5,889.38 so we are good so far this year. The financial report was approved as read.
We took the information for the Poppy Posters and the Americanism Essays to the school so the students can start working on them. Poppy Posters are due to the Department by April 15, so we will need to judge them by March 15 so they can be mailed. The Americanism Essays are due to us by Feb. 14 so they can be mailed and received at Department by March 15.
Lawrence Paulsen will make us a bill this week for the items we purchased for our Veterans Soup Supper. The Sons of the American Legion will work on a bill for the groceries we owe them for the soups they made.
MaryAnn said the soup supper was a success, but she does not have final figures and will report on that at the next meeting.
The Trunk or Treat was Oct. 31 and Shirley Trout did an excellent job getting the kids involved with helping to show where their relatives served in the wars and service. Our booth as so won a $15 prize for second place. We also helped with the Fall Carnival on Saturday, Nov. 9. We served brownies, cookies and bars.
We served popcorn and water, and I think that it went very well.
Mrs. Rose Hirsch, our Gold Star Sister, was not able to attend this meeting, so we will keep in touch to see when she can attend. We will try to get our 2024 Girls State member to attend at that time also. Government Day will be Nov. 18, we are checking to see if they need more help.
Cora made a motion to give $75 to our Food Pantry for the holidays and Deondra seconded this motion.
The prayer wallets that came from the County Convention were given out to the Veterans that attended the Veterans Day program at the school. The Wreaths for Veterans will be placed at the cemetery on Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. We will return back to the Legion Hall at 3:00 for refreshments.
The meeting was concluded with Cora reading a prayer and Jane adjourning the meeting. Sincerely, Eileen Wilson
