Morning Star is a small independent church with a big heart located southwest of Callaway. The Church operated without a full time Pastor for several months until Ed Lashley of Morning Star connected online with Michael Garner of Tennessee.

The Garner family had been 'led' to move to the Midwest prior to the online visit, so they were excited for the opportunity to come to central Nebraska for an interview in early January.

The Garners said they were immediately impressed with the area and the energy of the Morning Star congregation. The position was accepted by Pastor Michael and in April, the family, including their 22-month-old daughter, moved to Nebraska from their hometown of Crossville, Tennessee.

Pastor Michael's background, along with ministry includes singing with gospel groups. Presently he is a member of the trio 'Million Heirs', a group that Pastor Garner formed three years ago to compliment his ministry.

When asked what they like about Callaway and the surrounding area, Pastor Michael said, 'The pace of life here and the quietness.' His wife Deborah added, 'The people'.

The family has settled into their home in Callaway and voiced they “are excited to be here.”

October is National Pastors/Clergy appreciation month and Pastor Michael and his family were honored on Sunday, Oct. 13, in the Church Fellowship Room with a potluck meal following the worship service. Worship time at Morning Star is 10:30 a.m. with Sunday School held prior at 9:15 a.m. Everyone is welcome.
