The South Loup Bobcats hosted the Pleasanton Bulldogs in Callaway on Friday, Oct. 4, for an afternoon Homecoming game. Unfortunately, the outcome was not what the Bobcats had hoped for.

The Bulldogs came out firing, scoring on two long passes in the first quarter to jump out to an early 16-0 lead. However, before the quarter ended Bobcats quarterback Dylan Pandorf was able to connect with Ethan Furne for a 34-yard touchdown reception. AJ Starr ran in the 2-point conversion to make the score 8-16 at the first quarter break.

Pleasanton did not let up though, and scored three more TDs in the second quarter. Conner Paulsen powered the ball in from the 9-yard line to score for the Bobcats and ran in the 2-point conversion, to make the score 16-38 at the half.

The only score in the third quarter came on a 3-yard pass from Pandorf to Paulsen. The conversion failed and the quarter ended with the score 22-38 as the Bobcats fought to close the gap.

Sadly, that did not happen though, as Pleasanton scored twice more in the fourth - failing on both conversion attempts - while holding South Loup scoreless. The Bulldogs ended the game with the win 50-22.

The final stats tell the story as South Loup finished with 181 total yards compared to Pleasanton’s 402. It was a clean game, with only one turnover by the Bobcats, and only three penalties - two on Pleasanton and one on South Loup.

Pandorf was 7/14 passing for 69 yards and two touchdowns. Paulsen led the team in rushing with 71 yards on 17 carries, while Starr carried the ball 15 times and gained 23 yards. Furne was Pandorf’s primary target in the air, with 5 receptions for 61 yards and a touchdown.

The win keeps Pleasanton’s undefeated streak alive, while South Loup now stands at 4-2. The Bobcats are on the road to Ravenna on Friday, Oct. 11, with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
