Kite Flight 2024 is in the books, and with cooler temperatures and added attractions this year’s event brought in a big crowd. Held each Labor Day weekend for over 30 years, the Kite Flight has become a tradition for many families to enjoy the final weekend of summer.

“We enjoy seeing people from around the world that we only get the chance to see at this event. It's kind of like a big family reunion,” said Kindle Rice, who spearheaded the organization of the Kite Flight this year. “All of our fliers love this event because it is an ‘unstructured’ event unlike many others that they attend. This allows them to put up any kind of kite they wish to fly so they often bring out kites that don't see much airtime otherwise.

“Many of the kites you will see are handmade by the kiters themselves,” Rice continued. “These people really are an impressive group of individuals who love to share and talk about their passion, and they encourage people to come and interact with them. You have no comprehension of the size of these kites and the effort it takes to fly them until you talk to these guys and gals. It gives you an appreciation for all the work that goes into this skill.”

The annual Kite Flight is hosted by the Callaway Chamber of Commerce.
