Fresh off the heels of the Callaway Pioneer Picnic our neighbors to the east will be hosting their annual community event this weekend. The 2024 Oconto Fun Day celebration is set for July 5, 6, and 7.

The fun begins on Friday with the mystery scavenger hunt beginning at 5:30 p.m. Registration will be held at Big Jim’s Bar.

Then on Saturday the day will kick off with the Colton’s Crusaders 5K run/walk. The event is held in memory of Colton Eggleston. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the fee of $20 for adults, $15 for children includes a T-shirt.

The Fun Day parade will begin at 11 a.m. with this year’s theme, “Keep Calm And Sparkle On”. There will be a free lunch following the parade at noon in the community building served by the Oconto Boosters.

After lunch everyone is invited to participate in a corn hole tournament being held at the bleachers along Grand Avenue. For the kids it’s fun with the critter races beginning at 1 p.m. Turtles, toads, and salamandors will race down Grand Avenue, sponsored by First Interstate Bank of Callaway.

Fun for the kiddos continues on Saturday afternoon with running races, the egg and balloon toss, and ping pong ball drop, all getting underway at 2 p.m. There will be prizes...and money!

The community celebration always brings alumni back to Oconto, and this year’s alumni banquet will get started at 6:30 p.m. Alumni registration will be held prior to the banquet, from 6-6:30. The public is invited to attend the banquet as well.

The big day will conclude Saturday with a fireworks display downtown at 9 p.m.
