A handful of South Loup track and field team members made the trip to Sutherland on Tuesday, April 30, to participate in the Best of the Midwest invitational.

Logan Recoy was the lone men’s medalist for the Bobcats, finishing in 6th place in the 800m run with a time of 2:06.71.

For the ladies, Ella Cool picked up the bronze medal in the 3200m and ran one of the legs of the 4x800m relay that finished 6th. Other members of that team were Ivy Tullis, Jade Bierman, and Erin Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald also qualified for finals in the long jump.

On Friday, May 3, the Bobcats hosted the Dave Blevins Memorial Invite in Arnold. The men’s team finished in 2nd place in the team standings behind North Platte St. Pat’s, while the ladies finished 4th overall.

Senior Logan Recoy had a great day, setting a new personal record in both the 400m of 53.40, and the 800m of 2:06.16 to win the gold in both events. All three men’s relay teams also ran well. The 4x100 team of Conner Paulsen, Trey Connell, Dylan Pandorf, and Ethan Furne won the bronze medal, as did the 4x400 team of Pandorf, Paulsen, Furne, and Recoy. The 4x800 team of Josiah Coleman, Uotong Haidle, Paxton Bierman, and Elijah Cool finished 4th.

Caleb McFate had a 4th place finish in the 300m hurdles, as did Paulsen in the 200m dash.

In the field events, Dawson Mason turned in his personal best performance in the pole vault of 11’ 6 to win gold. The Bobcats swept the event with Bierman taking 2nd, and Haidle 3rd.

Rio Remund claimed the silver medal in shot put with a throw of 49’ 1.75 and 3rd place in discus. Pandorf’s leap of 38’ 8.5 in triple jump secured him the bronze medal. Furne had the longest jump of his career in long jump of 20’ 3.75, good for 4th place.

The relay team of Tullis, Cool, Erin Fitzgerald, and Jade Bierman had another successful meet - winning the silver medal in both the 4x400 and 4x800. Sadly the 4x100 relay team scratched in the finals.

The ladies also picked up a couple of gold medals in the field events. Bryn Schwarz had the best day of her career in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 9’, and Bierman cleared 4’ 8 in the high jump.

The home invite was the final regular season meet for the South Loup track teams. They are competing today, May 9, in the C-8 District Meet in Ord to determine state qualifiers.
