Callaway American Legion Auxiliary Minutes
The American Legion Auxiliary monthly meeting started at 5:00 p.m. at the Callaway Legion Hall on Feb. 19, 2024.
Our president Jane Lashley called the meeting to order.
Our chaplain Joyce read the prayer. We said the Pledge of Allegiance, sang the Star Spangled Banner, and recited our Auxiliary Preamble. Our secretary Eileen was late getting to the meeting so the minutes from the last meeting were not read. MaryAnn gave the financial report.
On Sunday, March 10, at 3:00 we will have the Legion Birthday Party. We plan to have cake and ice cream.
Certificates will be passed out for the members that have earned them.
March 3, 2024, at Doniphan, is the District Conference.
The meeting will start at 9:00 and we will enter our Unit Publicity Book, our centerpiece, Prayer Book, History Book, and our Unit Handbook, for judging.
For Valentine's Day, we had 133 valentines which Mary-Ann took to Central Nebraska Veterans Home and the Grand Island Veterans Medical Center.
Shirley will pick up the Americanism Essays so we can judge them.
The scholarships will be judged on Feb. 21, so they can be mailed and postmarked by the 15th of March. The Girls State Applications will be judged at our meeting tonight.
They need to be postmarked by March 1.
Joyce read a story of the USS Dorchester and the four chaplains who were on that ship. When the ship sank the chaplains gave up their life jackets to save other sailors.
These 4 chaplains gave up their lives to save others, this was during World War II.
Our Auxiliary Poppy Posters that won from last year were sent to Nashville. They were then returned to us.
The students Joslyn Bailey, Katy Phelps, and Jaxon Fedderson, will receive their posters back.
Jo made a motion for us to pay the $25 for a T-shirt for Girls State and the Girls State activity fees will also be paid for our representative. Deondra seconded the motion and it received a unanimous vote of approval.
Our next meeting will be March 11 at 5:00 and that is when we will judge the Americanism Essays and the Poppy Posters.
Our meeting was adjourned and Joyce read the prayer.
Sincerely, Eileen Wilson, Secretary
