Bobcats Continue To Steamroll Opponents On Gridiron
Another week, another commanding lead by the Bobcat football team (6-0) is in the books. Thursday they trekked to Hyannis for a late-evening game, and a whooping on the Longhorns, winning 58-18.
The Longhorns struck first with a touchdown early in the first quarter making the score 0-6, but Conner Paulsen responded with a 65-yard touchdown, followed by a PAT to take the lead 8-6. Ethan Furne piled on the points a few moments later with another touchdown to extend the lead 14-6.
Paulsen really wanted to be in the end zone again, so he found the uprights and added 6 more points, plus a PAT to bring the score up to 22-6. Senior Trey Connell took off for a 16-yard run and found the end zone for another 6 points to the board. Fellow senior Cache Gracey wanted in on the party, so at the end of the first quarter, he caught a pass from Connell and ran 48 yards to the end zone. A successful PAT brings the score to 36-6 by the end of the first.
The second quarter was a bit slower with many of the underclassmen coming into the game, but the Bobcats still scored two touchdowns and had two successful PATs - one by Connell off a 12-yard run, and one by Dylan Pandorf - to extend their lead 52-6. The Longhorns snuck by a single touchdown in the second, to end the first half with a score of 52-12.
The final Bobcat score of the game came in the third quarter when Paulsen took off for a 47-yard run to find paydirt and add the final 6 points to the board.
The Longhorns scored once in the fourth quarter to make the final score 58-18.
The Bobcats outran the Longhorns by nearly 300 yards - with 337 rushing yards to their 42 rushing yards. Paulsen had a busy night with 165 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns. Junior AJ Starr added 51 rushing yards and 5 tackles.
Connell had 50 rushing yards, 42 passing yards, 2 touchdowns, and a pass that resulted in a touchdown.
The Bobcats have scored an average of 51.7 points per game this season, with a total of 310 points scored this season. They are averaging 332.3 rushing yards per game and 55.8 tackles per game. Connell has an average of 124 rushing yards per game and 17 touchdowns total for the season. Gracey has an average of 31 receiving yards and 4 receiving touchdowns. Paulsen has 10 touchdowns for the season.
Rio Remund has 2 caused fumbles and Furne has 2 fumble recoveries. Paulsen and Crew Witthuhn both have an average of 7.2 tackles per game.
The Bobcats dropped in the MaxPreps.com rankings, not because they have played poorly, but because they have hit the easier part of their schedule for the season.

The Bobcats will face the Mullen Broncos (5-1) on Friday in Arnold. Kick-off is set for 3 p.m.
