The Lady Bobcat volleyball team (1-2) continued their road trip this season with a game last Friday at Maywood-Hayes Center. The Bobcats fell in four sets to the Wolves, who finished fourth in the state tournament last year in Class D1.

Even though they are adjusting to the new team chemistry this season, the Lady Bobcats showed great adaptability and flexibility in adjusting to the style of play the Wolves brought to the court. When the Wolves went from hitting long hard lobs to soft taps over the net, the Lady Bobcats were quick to adjust and react, changing their playing style to match.

The first set was a back-and-forth between the two teams, with the Lady Bobcats taking an early lead. The Wolves attempted a comeback, but the Bobcats were solid in passing and hitting and walked away with the win, 25-19. The second set was a close one, as the Lady Bobcats took an early lead, but a few hitting errors allowed the Wolves to pull ahead. Despite keeping up with the Wolves in many long volleys and well-placed serves, the Lady Bobcats fell 23-25.

The third set saw the Lady Bobcats up early, but fatigue seemed to hit the team and the errors, and points for the Wolves, started to add up. The Lady Bobcats dropped the set 20-25. The fourth and final set was very similar - the Lady Bobcats were up by 5 points but were ultimately unable to hold onto the advantage and lost 20-25.

Senior Charli Vickers had a great night at the net with 18 kills and 11 blocks. Delaney Rogers also had 11 blocks and 8 kills. Delaynie Liable had an incredible 6 aces from the service line and led the team in serve receiving with 17 total.

Bryn Schwarz had 30 assists and 7 blocks, while Josie Reiff had 45 digs and was perfect from the service line with zero errors.

The Lady Bobcats have a busy week, traveling to Kearney Catholic on Tuesday and Gothenburg on Thursday for varsity, JV, and reserve games. On Saturday they will host the Seven Valleys Tournament in Callaway where they will attempt to bring home the trophy for an eighth straight year. Play begins at 9:30 a.m.
